Description

FIFA 20, released on September 27, 2019, served as a significant entry in the long-running franchise by introducing VOLTA Football, a brand-new street soccer mode, alongside major updates to the traditional Career Mode and the popular Ultimate Team experience.

EA focused on refining the core gameplay to offer a more realistic and user-controlled experience. The “Football Intelligence” system gave AI players a better understanding of space and positioning. New mechanics like “Strafe Dribbling” allowed for closer control, while “Controlled Tackling” rewarded precise defensive timing. The game also featured an overhaul of free kicks and penalties, and a new ball physics system created more authentic trajectories and bounces.

VOLTA Football brought the action off the professional pitch and back to urban environments, similar to the FIFA Street series. Players could engage in various small-sided formats, including 3v3, 4v4, 5v5, and professional futsal matches, across 17 distinct locations around the globe. The mode included a “Volta Story” narrative campaign and an online “Volta League” for competitive play. Legends of Dragaea: Idle Dungeons

Career Mode received some of its most substantial updates in years, addressing long-standing community requests. Interactive press conferences and player conversations meant that a manager’s responses now directly impacted player morale and performance. A new dynamic potential system allowed player ratings to evolve based on in-game performance , adding realism to development. For the first time, players could also fully customize their manager’s appearance and gender.

The Ultimate Team (FUT) mode also saw enhancements. “ Season Objectives ” introduced long-term goals for earning rewards, while “FUT Friendlies” offered a casual environment where contracts and fitness weren’t an issue. The roster of “Icons” was expanded with new legends such as Zinedine Zidane and Didier Drogba. FIFA 20 maintained its vast library of licensed leagues and teams, including exclusive rights to the UEFA Champions League. However, due to licensing conflicts with a rival game, certain major clubs like Juventus were featured with generic names and badges (e.g., “Piemonte Calcio”), though the real player names were still used.
